We will cover some of the basics: sit, down, come and wait. We will also learn a few fun tricks. Tricks will be determined based on class interest, but might include such tricks as shake, roll over and play dead. We will also discuss appropriate and inappropriate ways for kids to interact and play with dogs.

Looking for fun ways to exercise and entertain your puppy during the cold winter months? This class is intended to provide both physical and mental exercise for your puppy and give you some ideas of fun ways to interact with your puppy. This is not intended to be an introduction to competitive agility, but rather a fun way to introduce your puppy to obstacles and see if you might want to consider agility when your puppy matures. It is also a great way to expose your puppy to: training, novel items, exercises that help your puppy become more aware if his/her legs and body parts, problem solving and mental exercises, and a fun way to further bond with your puppy.

Canine Good Citizen Test Preparation Class and CGC Test
For the schedule of upcoming group classes, click here
- Cost: $150, includes the cost for the CGC test.
- Prerequisite: Basic Training or equivalent, for dogs 6 months and older.
This class is for anyone interested in obtaining the CGC award or for anyone looking for the next step in training beyond Basic Training. The focus of this class is to help our dogs to become polite members of our society. The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Test was created by the American Kennel Club (AKC) for pet owners who had no interest in competing in formal obedience but wanted something to work toward with their dogs. It is a 10 point test to show that your dog will behave in public and respond to you for things such as, sit, down, come, stay and walking nicely on a loose leash. You can see all test items at the AKC site (here).
This class will prepare your dog to be a polite member of society as well as specifically preparing him or her to pass the CGC test. We will discuss and practice all areas of the test and focus on the areas where your dogs need the most work. The last scheduled night, you will take the test with your dog.
While treats and other motivators are allowed during classes, there are no treats, toys, or special equipment (which the AKC considers to be such things as head halters and harnesses) allowed during the actual test. In addition to working on the items, we will also work on weaning your dogs off from treats, toys or other rewards during class.
